    Discolorations on jelly toys??

Hollo, all! I have a question that I'm sure someone around will know the answer to. I have unfortunately been horribly busy this summer, and my jelly butt-plug and dildo have spent the majority of the summer laying forlornly in my bedside table drawer, unused. I pulled them out last night, and noticed that they had some random, dark discolorations that didn't wash off. They were laying loose in the drawer along with some rubber bands and clothespins.

Do you think the direct contact with the rubber bands would have discolored the jelly? Is it harmful, and are they still safe to use? When using them, I sort of fancied that it burned a bit, but that could have been attributed to several other factors.

Could it be the metal from the clothespins?
If it doesnt come of when you wash it and the gel in other ways are not damaged/punctured, i cant see that it could be harmfull.

    Lightbulb Changing Spots

I've seen this happen as well. When gel toys get warm
or above room temperature they can receive color
transfer from things they might be laying against.

Most likely in this case the rubber bands did the trick.

I've found keeping them in a plastc box with lid does well
to keep the usual elements of dust and dirt from gathering
    on them as well.

Those too over time can add to the discoloration of gel toys.

Washing them well after use and sometimes even applying a
light dusting of on uncolored/unscented talc based power can
prolong their look as well as their usuage.

As far as being safe to use, yes the discoloration shouldn't
    effect that aspect of things.

Also store them in a cool dry place when not in use.
Somewhere that the temperature does not reach excessive peaks
    of either hot or cold.

Sometimes direct exposure to sunlight or harsh internal
light sources will also affect the coloration of them.

Here's a shot of a very cool one for anal use I recently
    added to my collection.

Yeah, I've had this happen as well - two different jelly toys that were cuddling a bit too close for too long in a boiling flat...grrrrr. *sighs* I'll have to watch them more closely in the future but don't think it does any more harm than hurting the eye.

*purrrrrrrrrs* can I borrow your toy, Scorpio?

I haven't had this happen from just having my plug(s) laying out...but the first time I used one of my plugs, when I went to clean it off (sorry if that's tmi), it was discolored a bit. Could that just be from my body chemistry or the temperature in there?

Angel, a few of mine have discolored in such a way too, even after completely cleaning it off the color is still "off".

I had a girl at my local sex shop tell me that I should never keep any of my "jelly" toys laying next to each other uncovered, as the different kinds of material can "melt". I have no idea if this is true, but I do have a a few butterflies that have small black stripes on them from exactly where the cord was laying against them (and i've not gotten the chance to even use the one yet)

Nice to know I'm not the only one BrattyOne. I've never heard/been told anything about keeping jelly toys separated. I've kept mine together up 'til now and not had a problem with it. I guess maybe I don't have whatever other type of material that makes them melt.

I really can't wait until I can get a real toybox to keep my playthings in.

Yes the girl at your local store was correct. When storing toys they should be kept in there own bag (lint free) or container.

Now if sillicone is stored with sillicone lube and it leaks on it yes it will melt it. it looks totaly strange when it does. they need throwing out when this happens.

I have had many customers come in to the store and say oh its discoloured or it melted.
99.9% of the times it is that the customer has wrongly stored it or used wrong lube with the toy.
**Rule of thumb is if your not sure what its made of use water base lube**
A lot of people think that its a sales pitch in getting them to buy pouches/lint free bags .. but its not it is to lengthen the life of the toy and for health reasons that we sell these bags.

A note of caution from my own experience:

Jelly toys can burn. I bought one a year or so ago and tried to use it a couple of times - and it felt like it was burning me. Very uncomfortable - to the point that I stopped using it completely. A few months later I was at my local sex shop and asked the clerk about it - she said that is a common problem. The chemicals in the toy's material are not so kind to delicate tissues.

I went home and threw it away.

I had the exact same thing happen with one of mine when I had noticed 'pieces' of it tearing away and as well talked to the sales woman about it - I threw out all my jelly toys and will now only use glass, silicone or metal
