Will the shelf system be restored at some point? I found it incredibly useful, both to store my favourite stories and to discover new ones by browsing other member's shelves. Also, it was a unique feature of the Library. Please let it come back.

True! The reviews were a great functionality as well, unique to the Library. Please restore it too.
I certainly hope the shelf review and listing system is going to be restored, I really do miss casually searching for things that I find particularly exciting..
If the shelf isn't to be restored then is there a way to look up what was on a shelf even if it can't be added to?
